This part of Pennsylvania is always a pleasure to pop by through any season. Throughout the warmest time of the year highs here at Buttermilk Falls Campground reach the 80’s with night-time lows in the 60’s. Through the winter we get highs in the 30’s; night lows tend to be in the 10’s.
Winter time snowmobilers are welcome to use the surrounding trails.
Outdoor recreation is abundant. Some of the enjoyable stuff you can do is whitewater paddling, swimming, fishing, and hiking. You will not run out of exciting things to do. Whitewater paddling is pleasant on Elk Creek. Get covered with water paddling on Miners Run. Buttermilk Falls Campground is a spot with many visitors from Shunk and the entire surrounding area. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Schrader Creek. Nearby Worlds End State Park offers excellent fishing and hiking and there is an especially good hiking trail nearby called the Dead Horse Trail. Fall Run flows through this area, and if the weather is nice, you can go for a hike along the Hoagland Trail. A hike on the Bills Trail is always a great adventure.
At this campground you will always have a good time. On a great day at Buttermilk Falls Campground you can take a hike along the East Branch Trail and the Deer Trail, or a pretty lake such as Bearwallow Pond. Mt. Pisgah State Park is wonderful and it’s close to Buttermilk Falls Campground.
While staying at Buttermilk Falls Campground, take a moment to view three covered bridges, numerous scenic overlooks, and visit museums in Laporte, Sonestown and Eagles Mere. Do some shopping in Dushore and browse through arts and craft shops located throughout the county. Enjoy a visit to Historic Eagles Mere, “the town that time forgot”. Stop at several general stores and visit with local folks, you will find them friendly and helpful.
In August we are within reach of the Little League World Series in nearby Williamsport, PA.
